Caring For Your Jewelry
Your jewelry is precious and does require some level of maintenance. We recommend the following tips to ensure your jewelry stays shining bright:
- As strong as gold and diamonds naturally are, they are still susceptible to scratches and snags. Be sure to take off your jewelry before entering any highly physical activity. Necklace and bracelets can get snagged and stones can get knocked out, which is not worth the risk.
- To avoid more rapid build up of dust and dirt on your jewelry, remove your jewelry before going to bed.
- Remove your jewelry before bathing, washing hands, or putting on lotion or perfume for the same reasons above.
- To clean your jewelry at home, soak your gold and diamond jewelry pieces in a solution of warm water and dish soap. Use an old toothbrush to scrub underneath any crevices to loosen dirt particles. After a good scrub, use a blow dryer to dry your jewelry to quickly evaporate any water spots – this is key to making your jewelry sparkle! Jewelry pieces that are plated, include semi precious stones such as rubies or emeralds, or include pearls should not be cleaned this way, as they are either too porous or sensitive to extreme heat. Tip: use the back of the toothbrush to hold down your jewelry pieces as you blow-dry them as the metal can heat up quickly. Don’t forget to close any sink drains just in case.
For your reference, all of our pieces are described with not only the type metal and gemstones used, but also with the size and weight of the piece. We have also included the length for necklaces and bracelets.
To see if the size is right for you, take a piece of string and cut it to the appropriate length and try it on around your neck or wrist.
Depending on the look you are going for, most of our necklaces are designed so that you can wear them at various lengths.
Bracelets should be loose enough to dangle about an inch or so below the wrist when your arms are in a downward position. This length is just right - it prevents both cutting off your circulation as well as snagging.
Bangles can be slightly tighter than bracelets. A good reference for bangle sizing is the width of your ring, middle, and pointing fingers – which is approximately the diameter of your wrist.
